Latrobe Valley to provide positive support to the Hunter Valley

http://morwellnh.org.au/latrobe-valley-to-provide-positive-support-to-the-hunter-valley/

The Latrobe Valley will be providing positive support and encouragement to the residents of the Hunter Valley with message books.

As you may be aware, devastating floods have hit the Hunter Region of New South Wales – a region that shares a similar industrial history and landscape to ours here in Latrobe City.  Our communites continue to survive through our resilience and strength of spirit.

Latrobe Valley to provide positive support to the Hunter ValleyThe Hunter Valley recently suffered heavy rains and cyclonic winds, leaving a massive trail of destruction.  The natural conditions have torn the Hunter Valley community apart, resulting in the loss of three lives.  It has brought down trees, power lines, moved houses from their stumps, cut roads, isolated people in their homes and shaken the community to its core.  We know only too well the devastation suffered when environmental disasters impact on our communities, such as the Morwell Mine Fire.  There are many synergies between the Latrobe Valley & the Hunter Valley so today we extend our support, thoughts, prayers & strength to our brothers & sisters in the Hunter Valley.  We applaud your fighting spirit & stand with you in the days & months to come as you work towards recovery.  From Morwell to Maitland, Traralgon to Telarah, Moe to Morpeth, Churchill to Cessnock know you have a friend in us.

Latrobe Valley People, I’m asking for your help. I want to deliver messages of support and encouragement to the Hunter Valley.  We know the challenges faced in recovery and we know the importance of positive messages.  Share your stories and mateship with the Hunter Valley residents.

Latrobe City Council’s message is simple: people of the Hunter Valley, you are not alone. But what’s your message?

Tracie Lund support for the Hunter Region on Gold 1242

http://morwellnh.org.au/tracie-lund-support-for-the-hunter-region-on-gold-1242/

Morwell Neighbourhood House Coordinator Tracie Lund has teamed up with Latrobe City Council Mayor Dale Harriman to provide support for the Hunter Valley Region.  The Hunter Valley Region still remains under declaration of a natural disaster, with flood waters still rising.  Latrobe Valley and the Hunter Valley share a lot in common, not only with the coal industry, but with the people too.  We’re placing message books in various locations around Latrobe Valley for people to provide a message of support, share their stories or even sign the book.  The message books are to provide positive support on their road to recovery.

The locations of the message books will be published here on the Morwell Neighbourhood House website, our Facebook page and Twitter later today.  Tracie Lund sums it up in the interview; “The Latrobe Valley gets it, we’re here, we’ve got your back and we understand your journey.”  We would like to thank Greg Allen with Gold 1242AM for taking the time to interview Tracie Lund and letting people know about the message books.

If you have any questions, please call Morwell Neighbourhood House on (03) 534-5488.  Thank-you.

Need eight people for Frackman to screen in Morwell

http://morwellnh.org.au/need-eight-people-for-frackman-to-screen-in-morwell/

The documentary film Frackman is to be screened in Morwell, however eight more people are needed to book to ensure the screening goes ahead.  Frackman tackles an issue of critical importance to the Gippsland region, that of Coal Seam Gas and its permanent effects on people and the land.

Coal Seam Gas (CSG) mining has already taken place in various parts of Australia, we can learn from others who have already experienced the effects of CSG.  To give you an idea how serious an issue CSG is for our region, watch the Frackman preview below.

An interview aired on ABC’s Lateline with Tony JonesCoal Seam Gas debate: Dayne Pratzky vs Steve Wright” on March 18th 2015, which raises the ongoing debate issues about CSG mining.

Also available is the Frackman report and preview on ABC’s Lateline on March 8th 2015.

If you want to learn more about Frackman, visit the Official Frackman Website.

Dear Latrobe Valley Community

http://morwellnh.org.au/dear-latrobe-valley-community/

Dear Latrobe Valley Community

Wow! What an incredible responses we have had to the recent ‘Mowing ahead’ article in the Latrobe Valley Express. Since Monday we have had 2 Lawn Mowers donated to the Neighbourhood House to support our Lawn Mower Program. That is an impressive response & reflects not only the amazing community we have but also the spirit of our town.

The Lawn Mower bank is the baby of ourselves & Morwell St Vinnies. It has grown from strength to strength. Changing & empowering lives on a daily basis.

Our goal is to continue to make a difference in to our community. With the help of donations from supporters like this we will continue to assist our community to kick its own goals.

Morwell & Latrobe Valley, you INSPIRE ME!
